Polonius peeked at Hamlet from behind the curtain.

PEAK: pinnacle
The action of the play peaks with a duel.
Meet me at the peak of Mount Trashmore, and I'll give you my paper.

PIQUE: excite (verb) or anger (noun)
My interest was piqued right at the beginning, when the ghost appeared.
